Details of the anomaly scan
During the anomaly scan a detailed anatomical check is performed. Measurements are also taken to check the baby’s growth.
This examination is normally performed at 20 wks in the UK, it is to check the anatomy of the baby, to check the prescence of certain sructures and also to exclude pathology such as structural abnormalities which cannot be excluded from the 12 week scan. The heart is also examined in greater detail which again is note clearly visualised at the 12 wee scan.
A professional Sonographer will show you the baby the in detail, such as:
- Head
- face
- chest
- heart
- stomach
- kidneys
- bladder
- cord insertion,
- spine
- upper and lower limbs,
- the position of the placenta and
- if there is a normal amount of fluid around the baby.
The gender of the baby can be identified if you wish.
