An ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of the inside of the body. There is no radiation involved.
For most scans, gel is placed on the body part and a probe is rubbed across it to visualise inside the body. There are different size probes depending on what we are examining.
A transvaginal scan is when a probe is inserted into the body, to visualise babies or pelvic organs more clearly (you can see 1 week ahead transvaginally than on the body)
No, you don’t need to have any referral form from a Doctor. You can book directly with us. Ultrasound is performed by using sound ways, not x-rays therefore not harmful, Therefore you don’t need a referral from a Doctor.
You can book your ultrasound directly with us, without any sort of referral. We can provide you with the scan results on the same day, we can also email the results to you/GP. If there are any problems that we might find will enable you to be seen in the NHS more urgently, therefore reducing your waiting time.
Your GP can refer you to us if you like, as we do have referrals from many GPs NHS and Private.
We provide a range of ultrasound services and blood testing, which includes both pregnancy scans and General scans.
We offer general scans such as Abdomen, kidneys and bladder and pelvic scans. The pelvic scans can also be specialised for women who are having fertility scans.
We also offer scans for the Testes, thyroid, lumps and bumps on your body. We offer musculoskeletal scans which are scans to check the tendons and muscles, if there has been some injury.
A chaperone can be requested at any time at our clinic. We ensure you feel comfortable and reassured during the scan. This should ensure a professional and caring scan.
All staff are fully qualified Sonographers, two have 30 years of experience, whereas the others have more than 10 years experience. We also provide an NHS for Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes ICB therefore work for the NHS.
All our sonographers are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, some are also registered with the Register of Clinical Technologists and follow the latest safety guidelines.
We as a company are also registered with the Care Quality Commission, All our staff who take blood for blood tests are phlebotomy trained.
The baby’s position can be one of the factors for poor image quality. We will try and move the baby gently during the scan to achieve the best images.
A high BMI can also affect the quality of the images so can reduced amniotic fluid. Bowel gas can also influence the image quality.
The larger the baby is the less room there is for the baby to move around, ultrasound is like looking through a keyhole so we can only scan a little area at a time.
The scans we perform are medical first, as healthcare professionals we would be checking the health and wellbeing of your baby or yourself . We would always inform you that we would check the baby or yourself and then inform you of our findings. Once we’ve checked we would explain and discuss the results and what to do next. We will also inform your GP directly if you need to be referred to the hospital or your baby.
There may be occasions when we need to discuss unexpected findings or bad news. If this happens during your scan, our team will ensure you receive the best possible care delivered to you.
We will also recommend your next steps. With your consent, we are able to contact the local early pregnancy unit or midwife on your behalf where possible. For general health scans, we can email our report to your GP if you provide their contact details.
