A common and safe way to get a clear picture of your early prenancy is by doing a transvaginal scan. This gives us a much closer look at your uterus and ovaries compared to a scan done ober your tummy. It isn't painful, but you feel a bit of pressure.

5 WEEKS (BABY TOO SMALL TO SEE)
At 5 weeks the baby (embryo) is very, very small. The actual embyo itself is still incredilbly tiny often no bigger than a peppercorn and is usually not clearly visible yet.
Gestational Sac: This a often the first thing we can see. it appears as a dark fluid-filled circle within your uterus. This confirms that the pregnancy is in the correct place, (and it isn't an ectopic pregnancy, which is positioned outside the uterus).
Yolk Sac: (YS), is a white circle within the gestation sac. This is incredibly important at this early stage as it provides essesntial nutrients to the embryo until the placenta is fuly formed. Seeing a yolk sac is another reassuring sign of progression.
6 WEEKS (BABY SEEN)
At 6 wks with a transvaginal scan, we will see the baby and the yolk sac,
Now we can see the embry which measures 7 mm and measures about 6 wks + 4 days.
In this scan we can see the heartbeat, see how many babies there are and also check that it is inside the uterus. The yolk sac is still present.
